Inside Upper Hand: Meet Katherine Heidenberger

Katherine Heidenberger, Sales Executive at Upper Hand

In our Meet the Team series, we are introducing you to the incredible people that work on our team.

You’ve already met Alexus Jimson-Miller. Today, we are excited to introduce you to Katherine Heidenberger!

Katherine joined the team in December 2020 as an SMB Sales Executive, where she helps prospective customers visualize how Upper Hand can help their business. Katherine has over 8 years of experience in the fitness industry, so she truly understands the unique needs and concerns of sports and fitness business owners.

Ready to meet Katherine? Let’s go!

First, let’s start with the basics – tell us a little about yourself.

I live in Baltimore, MD with my fiancé! I’ve worked in sports and fitness for the last 8 years and I can’t imagine being in any other industry. I left the boutique fitness industry to join Upper Hand so that I could work more on the back end of the industry to help facilities scale their business to the next level. By looking at data, providing tools, and having conversations, development and growth is always possible and I love being a part of this process.

As a Sales Executive, what does a typical day look like for you at Upper Hand?

I sell Upper Hand software to small and medium size businesses. On a day to day basis, I connect with facilities that could benefit from using our platform. Once I have a chance to share what we can do for them, I set up a demo and walk them through our platform! Understanding their needs and offering a solution is my favorite part of my job, hands down!

What is your favorite part about working at Upper Hand?

The people for sure, both internally and externally. It’s a company that was started by athletes, is run by athletes, and works with athletes. Because of this, we are constantly learning from each other and from our clients. It makes the day to day awesome.

How do you define success?

By making a difference. And this can be scaled in a number of ways! Being a listening ear, offering a solution, giving someone tools to succeed, contributing to the bottom line of Upper Hand, helping out a fellow team member, etc. There are so many ways to make a difference and end every day/week/quarter with your head held high.

You have over 7 years of prior experience in boutique fitness. How have those past experiences helped you in your role at Upper Hand?

In so many ways! I can fully empathize with the growing pains that facilities feel. It can be so easy to get bogged down in the day to day and focus on just putting out one fire at a time. But by being a part of Upper Hand, I can offer solutions! I can truly connect with owners in identifying pain points and talking through what the next step could look like. Because of my experience, I believe in taking a consultative approach with every potential customer I speak with.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?

I am about to become a bonus mom to the most rad 6 year old girl in the world and nothing excites me more!

What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

Pilates, food, and consignment shops! 🙂 I go to pilates 4x a week and I look forward to it every single time. Aside from that, I love exploring new parts of Baltimore and trying new restaurants! I would eat appetizers for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could. I also truly thrive in consignment stores and LOVE looking for unique home & jewelry finds there.

What advice would you give to someone that is in a customer-facing role like yours?

Be a sponge. Always listen and learn from your peers. Everyone has to be new at something at some point in their life. So make the most of it! Let yourself be challenged so you have the chance to grow.
