In 2012, baseball coach Kevin MacCauley saw the need for a platform connecting athletes with private coaches. Working from a janitor’s closet, he launched bookacoach less than a year later.
It became “the destination for sports lessons,” helping coaches streamline their business and focus on developing athletes skills.

In 2015, the team rebranded as Upper Hand, the first sports training management platform. Since then, Upper Hand has expanded to serve studios, gyms, and sports facilities, while staying focused on simplifying business in the sports industry.
Our passion and innovative spirit remain unchanged.

The Journey

2012

Founded as bookacoach, an online marketplace connecting athletes with local sports coaches, and moved into first office space inside a janitor’s closet at a baseball facility.

2014

Pivoted from B2C marketplace to B2B software to focus on meeting the growing needs of sports coaches.

2015

Rebranded as Upper Hand, the first sports training management platform.

2018

Expanded product suite to include sports facility management through the addition of new resource management tools.

2019

Relocated our Indianapolis, IN headquarters to accommodate our growing team.

2021

Launched Helping Hands, a company outreach initiative that focuses on finding opportunities to donate time and resources to the local Indianapolis community.

2023

Launched Upper Hand AI, the industry’s first data analytics platform for sports businesses to transform their data into actionable insights.

2024

Further expanded product suite to include sports team management, launching new features designed for sports coaches to manage their team rosters and schedules.
