Innovation Issue: Upper Hand Product Update May 2024

With our headquarters in Indianapolis, May is always an exciting month for our city: Between the Indy 500, the Pacers’ playoff run, and the Fever season heating up, this year was no exception!

Last month was also busy and exciting for Upper Hand. We welcomed new faces to our team, and have continued to make updates to our product to improve you and your clients’ experiences.

Here’s an inside look at what’s new to our sports scheduling app, and a sneak peak at what’s coming soon!

Add additional emails to a client account

We know how important it is to keep everyone in the loop. That just got easier with Upper Hand. We’ve added the ability for you (or your clients) to add additional emails to an account. With this update, adding an additional email will allow those email addresses to receive all marketing emails, custom messages, and registration confirmations.

For athletes whose parents are co-parenting, or if another relative is responsible for picking up or dropping off an athlete, they can get these reminders without having to create and manage an account. This update will allow one parent to still manage the account, while another can receive the notifications about events that keep them up to date.

Note: Additional emails will NOT receive purchase receipts or billing reminders. And, email settings for any additional emails will be dictated by the primary account holder’s email settings.

Clone registration fields when cloning an event

We’ve also improved our “Clone Event” feature for events and teams. Previously, we had gotten feedback that our “Clone Event” feature didn’t save all that much time, as the biggest time block was the registration fields. So, we’ve solved that problem!

Now, when cloning an event or team, any registration fields will clone in the exact order they were added to the original event. And, if they were originally marked as required, they will be marked as such on the new event as well.

Restrict event registration by date of birth

You are now able to set a date of birth restriction on your events and teams. Historically, our age restrictions were based on a client’s current age, and not the age they would be at the time of the event, sometimes preventing them from signing up for a camp that they would be eligible for by the time the event occurred.

Similarly, sports team cut-offs are often a specific date. For example, to participate in a U10 team, your date of birth must be before 10/01/2014. This feature gives you more control over your rosters and ensures no one is signing up for an incorrect team.

Filter events by sport type when browsing

If you offer events across multiple sports, it may be hard for your clients to sift through the events that are of interest to them. So, we’ve added the ability to filter the Browse Events page by sport type.

From there, you also have the ability to grab a custom URL that contains this filter, empowering you to send your clients specifically to your offerings that fit their sport needs.

Quick wins with big impacts

We’ve also made some quick changes inside the software to make your life just a little bit easier. Here’s a quick rundown of the highlights.

  • Our new calendar legend will help you stay on top of all of the different icons that may populate on a calendar card.
  • Purchase receipts will now include a “sold by” and “channel” section. This will help you keep track of whether a purchase was made online or in person, and if in person, which staff member sold the item. This will help you keep a pulse on all purchases.
  • Associate a season to your fixed events, helping you stay organized and helping clients drill down to find the events that fit their needs.

Even more updates coming soon

We’ve also continued to work on features and upgrades to the app. While we can’t share too much yet, we wanted to put together a few highlights of what you can look forward to in the coming months!

  • Create tiered membership options for your clients. Instead of creating a different membership for each billing cadence, number of benefits distributed, or other criteria, you’ll have the ability to create tiered options within a single membership.
  • A revamped Browse Events page with even more filtering capabilities to improve your client experience.
  • Add notes to team sessions

Last time out

In case you missed last month’s update, here’s a recap of some of the features we pushed out in April!

Add “leads” to your contact database

We added a new “Lead” contact status to the Contacts Page, giving you the ability to add contacts to your Upper Hand software without them being prompted to create an Upper Hand account.

Further segment your contacts with advanced filtering

Speaking of contacts, we’ve also added some additional contact segmentation filters to your Contacts page! Now, in addition to filtering by demographic data like Zip Code or Age, you can also filter based on activity. For example, you can filter your contacts by First Purchase Date or Last Purchase Date, Purchased Events, Birthday Month, and more!

Edit or remove a pending membership cancellation

Historically, once you had scheduled a client’s membership to cancel within the Upper Hand software, you were unable to take any further action. Now, we’ve made an update to our memberships, giving you the ability to edit or remove a pending membership cancellation.
